Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate abduction attempts, rescued civilians and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device planted by terrorists in Zamfara State.
On August 17, 2026, troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident along the Gurusu–Anka Road and launched a swift pursuit of the terrorists. The pressure forced the attackers to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the safe rescue of seven victims comprising four women and three children.
In a separate operation in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu Village.
The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon their victims and escape into nearby bushes. The rescued civilians, some of whom sustained gunshot injuries during the attack, were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

Earlier that day, Sector 2 troops also responded to the discovery of an IED planted by terrorists along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
The area was immediately cordoned off, while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team safely neutralised the device, preventing possible casualties among security personnel and motorists using the route.
The Theatre Command said the operations demonstrated the vigilance, swift response and determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to protect lives, secure communities and keep major roads safe from terrorist attacks.

It assured residents that troops would sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area and prevent them from freely threatening civilians.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious movements and activities.
