Kefas Ropshik has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State following a closely contested primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ropshik secured 19,938 votes to defeat three other aspirants in the primary held with delegates drawn from all 17 local government areas of the state, according to a statement issued by his media team on Tuesday.

The outcome positions him as the party’s flagbearer to challenge the incumbent governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who is expected to seek re-election.

In his acceptance speech after being declared winner, Ropshik expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, and supporters, dedicating his victory to God.

He said his journey from Garram in Kanke Local Government Area to the party ticket reflects a defining moment in Plateau State’s political history.

The PDP candidate said his ambition is driven by a “Plateau First” philosophy, pledging to focus on security, youth empowerment, economic development, and inclusive governance if elected.

Ropshik described his victory as a collective aspiration for a better Plateau State, adding that his campaign would prioritise unity and development.

He also pledged to serve only one term if elected governor, saying it aligns with the state’s zoning arrangement and would promote peace and political stability.

The pledge drew applause from delegates at the venue.

Ropshik further called on other aspirants to support his candidacy, urging unity within the party ahead of the general election.
