POLICE DISRUPT KIDNAPPING ATTEMPT AFTER 30-MINUTE GUN BATTLE IN KUBWA

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt in Byazhin, Kubwa, within the Bwari Area Council of Abuja.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, noting that armed men stormed the area at about 12:34 a.m. in an attempt to abduct residents.

She explained that acting on credible intelligence regarding the planned attack, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit were swiftly deployed to the location.

According to her, upon arrival, the officers discovered that the suspects were already attempting to forcefully enter a residence with the intention of kidnapping the occupants.

The armed men reportedly opened fire on sighting the police team, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.

A gun battle lasting over 30 minutes ensued, during which the operatives successfully repelled the attackers and disrupted the kidnapping attempt.

The suspects later fled into nearby bushes with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

The police recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition from the scene.

The intended victim, identified as Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed and taken to safety.

They were later moved to General Hospital, Gwarinpa, where they received treatment for trauma-related distress before being placed under protective care.
