RIVERS SCHOOL PROPRIETRESS ARRAIGNED OVER ALLEGED ASSAULT ON 16-YEAR-OLD STUDENT

The Rumuepirikom Police Division of the Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday arraigned Mrs. Orjiugo Udeala, proprietress of Phronesis Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, Rumokwuta, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, before a Magistrate’s Court over alleged assault of a 16-year-old student.

Udeala was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.

According to the charge sheet marked REMC 94 C/2026 and signed by CSP Ahmed Umar, the defendant and another person at large allegedly conspired on June 8, 2026, within the Rumuepirikom Magisterial District, to commit a felony, to wit: assault occasioning harm, an offence punishable under Section 516(A) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State, 1999.

The second count accused her of unlawfully assaulting a 16-year-old student, identified as Gift Nwala Onyeche, by flogging him with a cane and allegedly striking him with a fist on the ear and head, thereby causing him harm, contrary to Section 355 of the Criminal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charges were read in court.

Presiding Magistrate, Charles Wobisike Akpeh, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

The matter was adjourned to August 10, 2026, for further hearing.

Meanwhile, human rights group Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative is said to have been monitoring the case from the investigation stage through to the arraignment.
