Serie A: Joel Obi Scores In Chievo Home Draw; Ekong Lose With Udinese

Nigeria midfielder Joel Obi scored his first Serie A goal this season for Chievo Verona who came from a goal down to hold Orji Okwonkwo’s Bologna to a 2-2 draw.

Federico Santander had shot the visitors into an early lead in the third minute but a goal from Riccardo Meggiorini from the penalty spot and an Obi strike on the stroke of half-time secured a 2-1 lead for Chievo into the break.

The goal was Obi’s first goal in the Serie A in eight months. Obi last scored a Serie A goal in March in the colours of Torino where the Bulls ran out 4-0 winners over Cagliari.

Riccardo Orsolini’s 56th-minute goal ensured the points were shared at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium.

The game was Obi’s seventh in the Serie A this season while Okonkwo was an unused substitute.

At the Carlo Castellani Stadium, William Troost-Ekong featured in a three-man centre-back for Udinese who lost 2-0 away to Empoli.

Miha Zajc and Francesco Caputo were both on target for Empoli. Ekong’s Udinese are now without a win in their last seven Serie A games. Ignacio Pussetto halved the deficit for Udinese with nine minutes left.

Ekong has made 12 Serie A starts this season since he arrived from Turkish side, Bursaspor.

Udinese are currently placed in relegation position – 18th in the 20 team Serie A with nine points from 12 matches.
