SHETTIMA BEGINS FIRST OFFICIAL TWO-WEEK LEAVE SINCE TAKING OFFICE

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Tinubu, his first official vacation since taking office on May 29, 2023.

The development was announced on Thursday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

According to Nkwocha, the leave will allow the Vice President to dedicate time to study and reflection as part of efforts to further enhance his leadership capacity.

He said the break would also give Shettima the opportunity to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, evaluate key policy priorities and deepen his understanding of emerging national and global issues.

Nkwocha added that the period of reflection would better prepare the Vice President for future responsibilities as the Federal Government intensifies the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the Vice President has remained actively engaged in coordinating and supervising several strategic government initiatives,” he said.

He noted that Shettima has played key roles in advancing economic development, food security, humanitarian interventions, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

Nkwocha also highlighted the Vice President’s role as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), the intergovernmental policy-making body comprising the governors of the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior public officials.

He further said Shettima has represented President Tinubu at major regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.

According to the presidential aide, the Vice President has remained committed to the principles of loyalty, duty and service while supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to build a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria.

Nkwocha disclosed that Shettima is expected to resume official duties at the end of the two-week leave.
