OONI HAILS OKPEBHOLO’S HUMILITY, PEOPLE-CENTRED LEADERSHIP

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for what he described as his humility and people-oriented style of leadership.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, the monarch made the remarks when Governor Okpebholo, accompanied by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, paid him a courtesy visit at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Welcoming the governors, the Ooni said their humility and simplicity set them apart from many public office holders, noting that they had remained accessible and connected to ordinary Nigerians despite occupying high political offices.
“We are honoured and privileged to receive the two governors in the palace. The entire Yoruba race is delighted to have leaders with such rare qualities,” the monarch said.
The Ooni described humility as an essential trait of good leadership, adding that both governors had demonstrated exemplary character worthy of emulation.
“These two governors are among the most humble leaders we have produced in Nigeria. Everything about them reflects humility and simplicity. They are approachable, easy-going and amiable.
“I have observed their conduct, mannerisms and simplicity. They do not allow their positions to define them. They remain down-to-earth and closely connected with the people,” he said.
The traditional ruler urged Governor Okpebholo to remain committed to his leadership style, describing it as a reflection of the Yoruba Omoluabi values.
“We are here to celebrate you. I know your visit to Osun has political significance, but beyond politics, we are celebrating the Omoluabi spirit. Continue with your humility and approach to leadership. That is the best way to serve the people. Keep up the good work,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the two governors, Governor Ododo said Okpebholo requested that he address the monarch during the visit.
He thanked the Ooni for his efforts in promoting peace in Osun State and across Nigeria.
“We are here to appreciate Your Majesty for your commitment to peace, not only in Osun State but throughout the country,” Ododo said.
He explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening peace, unity and cooperation among the people of Osun State while supporting broader efforts to promote national cohesion.
The visit also underscored Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to engaging traditional institutions as part of efforts to foster peace, unity and inclusive governance across the country.
