SHETTIMA DEPARTS NIGERIA FOR AU SUMMIT IN ANGOLA

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
The trip was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.
According to the statement, the high-level summit will focus on strategies for conflict prevention and resolution, as well as efforts to promote lasting peace and stability across Africa.
Shettima will join African leaders and other stakeholders in Luanda to deliberate on practical measures to address regional security challenges and strengthen continental mechanisms for preventing and resolving conflicts.
Nigeria, which has played a significant role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts across Africa, is expected to contribute to discussions on strengthening mechanisms for managing disputes and sustaining peace on the continent.
The statement said Nigeria’s participation would further demonstrate its commitment to promoting peace, security and stability across Africa.
Shettima, who is accompanied by senior defence and security officials, is expected to deliver President Tinubu’s address at the summit.
According to the statement, the Vice President will outline Nigeria’s position on the issues under consideration while reaffirming the country’s commitment to peace and stability across the continent.
The summit is also expected to examine ways to strengthen African mechanisms for conflict prevention, dispute resolution and peacebuilding amid persistent security challenges across the continent.
Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Angola.
