SUSPECTED ARMED HERDSMEN KILL FOUR IN FRESH BENUE COMMUNITY ATTACK

Suspected armed herdsmen have reportedly killed several people in a fresh attack on communities in Mbaterem, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attackers, said to have arrived on motorcycles, allegedly invaded Ayaba, Ukpen, Bom, Aboajio and Yina communities at about 5 a.m. on Sunday, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

A resident, Emmanuel Oryiman Mbatsavdue, said four people had been confirmed dead in Aboajio community, while residents continued searching for missing family members. He added that the death toll could rise as the search continued.

The Executive Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, Jonathan Modi, confirmed the attack but said the exact number of casualties had yet to be determined.

According to him, security operatives were still in the affected areas assessing the situation.

The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, also confirmed the attack in Ukum Local Government Area, adding that further details would be communicated as they become available.
