SUSPECTED ROBBERS KILL WAREHOUSE GATEKEEPER, STEAL MOTORCYCLES IN JALINGO

A warehouse gateman has been killed after suspected robbers attacked a warehouse in Zangon Noma, behind Alhaji Yaro’s Office (AYA), near FastTrack Hotel in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday when the assailants broke into the warehouse and allegedly carted away several motorcycles kept at the facility after attacking the security guard.

The victim, whose identity had yet to be disclosed as of the time of filing this report, was reportedly on duty when the suspected robbers carried out the attack.

Sources said the assailants fled the scene after allegedly killing the gateman and carting away an unspecified number of motorcycles from the facility.

The development has caused concern among residents and business operators in the Zangon Noma area, particularly over the safety of commercial facilities and properties in the neighbourhood.

Following the incident, the Nigeria Police recovered the victim’s remains and deposited the body at a mortuary, while efforts were commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The police also launched an investigation aimed at identifying the perpetrators, tracing their whereabouts and recovering the stolen motorcycles.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, said the command was aware of the attack and was already working to track down those responsible

“We are aware of the incident, and efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible,” Mshelizah said.

The police spokesperson, however, did not disclose the number of motorcycles reportedly stolen or confirm whether any arrests had been made as of the time of filing this report.

Details surrounding the death of the gateman, including how the assailants gained entry into the warehouse, remained unclear.

Residents who spoke to the media expressed concern over the incident, saying the killing had heightened security fears among business owners and operators of facilities in parts of Jalingo metropolis.
