Nigerian actress and media personality Temi Otedola has stirred conversations on social media after candidly admitting that she has benefited from the privileges of coming from one of Nigeria’s most prominent families.

Speaking on an episode of The How Far Podcast, which she co-hosts with her husband, Mr Eazi, Temi addressed the widely discussed issue of privilege and nepotism.

During the conversation, she said she has no intention of denying that she is a “nepo baby,” adding that she finds it surprising when people refuse to acknowledge the advantages they have gained through their family background.

Temi explained that while privilege and nepotism are closely related, they are not the same. According to her, privilege provides access to better opportunities and resources, whereas nepotism involves benefiting directly from family influence or connections.

She stressed that it is more honest to acknowledge such advantages than to pretend they do not exist.

The actress, who is the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, said: “You can never catch me on or off camera saying I’m not a nepo baby.”

Her comments have since attracted widespread reactions online, with many commending her openness and self-awareness. Others argued that admitting one’s privilege is an important step toward broader conversations about equal opportunities and fairness.

Temi, who gained recognition for her performance in Citation and has also built a career as a fashion influencer and entrepreneur, has consistently been open about her background while maintaining that she strives to make the most of the opportunities available to her.

Her latest remarks have reignited debate among Nigerians over privilege, merit and transparency, with many questioning whether public figures should be more forthcoming about the role family connections may have played in their success.
