France captain Kylian Mbappé has emerged as the leading contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or as the World Cup enters its decisive stages.
Mbappé currently tops the scoring chart at the ongoing tournament and has played a key role in helping France national football team reach the quarter-finals.
The 27-year-old forward has scored seven goals and contributed two assists so far in the competition.
According to betting market forecasts from Polymarket, Mbappé is considered the favourite for the prestigious award, with a 26 per cent probability of claiming the Ballon d’Or.
Harry Kane, captain of England national football team, follows closely behind with a 23 per cent chance after netting six goals at the tournament.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembélé are each rated with an 11 per cent chance of winning the award.
Notably, Messi—an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner—was given less than a one per cent chance of securing another title before the World Cup began, but his impressive performances have significantly boosted his standing in the race.
