TINUBU HID SUBSIDY REMOVAL PLAN TO AVOID PRESSURE, SAYS SHETTIMA

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not publicly disclose his plan to remove fuel subsidy before assuming office.
Shettima made the remarks on Friday in Lagos while leading members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on a Sallah homage visit to the President.
According to him, Tinubu deliberately kept the decision private because he was aware that open discussion of the policy ahead of his inauguration could have triggered pressure to abandon it.
Speaking during the visit, Shettima said:
“You kept it a top secret, it wasn’t part of your speech. You made that decision and kept it close to your heart because you believed that if you had included it in your speech, some people would have tried to persuade you not to go ahead with it.”
He added that the move reflected bold leadership, describing it as “the courage of leadership, the audacity of hope, and the foresight to see into the future.”
