Security operatives in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State have arrested several suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, motorcycle thieves and an alleged terror accomplice in a major crackdown on criminal activities in the area.
The arrests were announced by the Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Christopher Audu Manship, during a security briefing held in Doemak on Friday, where some of the suspects were publicly presented.
According to a statement issued by the chairman’s Director of Press and Publicity, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, one of the suspects, Thomas Dayoung, confessed to masterminding a plot to kidnap his employer following a personal disagreement.
Investigators said Dayoung allegedly recruited an associate, Austin Danaan, along with other accomplices to execute the plan. However, after failing to locate their intended target, the group reportedly abducted the employer’s daughter-in-law instead.
Security agencies later tracked down and arrested the suspects, who remain in custody pending further investigation.
In a separate incident, armed robbers reportedly barricaded a section of the Kwande road in Qua’an-Pan with obstacles, causing an accident that left two travellers dead and several others injured.
The attackers were said to have robbed passengers travelling from Lafia, carting away cash and livestock.
Following a report by one of the victims, Muhammadu Salisu of Shendam Local Government Area, security agencies launched an investigation that led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Umar Baba.
Authorities said Baba confessed to participating in the robbery and subsequently produced ₦800,000, in addition to refunding ₦500,000 realised from the sale of three stolen rams.
