At least two vigilantes were killed and three others injured after suspected gunmen attacked their duty post at Mangor in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 11pm at Angwan Tsarki, a settlement in Mangor, according to residents.

The victims were said to be on watch duty when the attackers opened fire on them.

A community member, Bitrus Simon, told newsmen that the gunmen targeted the vigilantes while they were carrying out their duties, killing two and injuring three others.

Simon condemned the attack as unfortunate and called for stronger security measures to protect residents and prevent further attacks in the area.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has confirmed a separate shooting incident along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the command said the incident occurred at about 4:30pm on October 4, 2026, when a vehicle carrying traders returning from Kara Market in Bukuru came under attack.

The police said seven injured victims had so far been traced to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they were receiving medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Investigations to take full responsibility for the probe and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

The command condemned the attack and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

It added that tactical and anti-robbery teams had been deployed to strengthen security in the affected area, while intelligence gathering had been intensified to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The police urged residents to continue with their lawful activities while remaining vigilant and promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.

Efforts to reach security operatives for confirmation of the Mangor attack were unsuccessful as of press time.
