US WARNS CITIZENS AGAINST TRAVELLING WITHOUT VALID PASSPORTS

The United States government has reminded its citizens to ensure they possess valid US passports when travelling to and from the country.
The advisory applies to all American citizens, including children and individuals with dual nationality.
In a post on X on Sunday, the United States Mission in Nigeria stated that US citizens must use a US passport when entering or departing the United States.
“U.S. citizens are required to enter and depart the United States on a U.S. passport. This requirement applies equally to U.S. citizens, including children, who are dual nationals,” the mission said.
The mission also clarified that dual-national US citizens cannot use their foreign passports when applying for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
It added that the Department of Homeland Security “routinely denies or cancels ESTAs for dual national U.S. citizens.”
The US Mission further advised Americans residing abroad to confirm that their travel documents are valid before making plans to visit the United States.
It urged citizens with expired passports or those nearing expiration to renew them ahead of travel, noting that many countries require passports to have at least six months’ validity.
