France captain Kylian Mbappé has strongly criticised Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla after she allegedly made racist remarks about him on social media following France’s World Cup Round of 16 victory over Paraguay.
Mbappé, who plays for France national football team and Real Madrid CF, on Monday described Amarilla, a member of Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, as a “despicable woman” and said she was unworthy of serving in the country’s Congress.
The exchange followed a social media post by Amarilla reacting to a photograph that appeared to show Mbappé celebrating in front of Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill after the match.
In the post, the senator allegedly made derogatory and racist remarks about the French forward.
Responding on X, Mbappé condemned the comments, writing: “Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position.
“You do not represent Paraguay, a country that has shown passion and honour throughout this competition.
“I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.”
