Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened legal action against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, demanding N10 billion in damages over allegations linking him to murder, bribery, corruption and other criminal conduct.
The threat was contained in a letter dated July 6, 2026, signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, on behalf of Pinheiro LP, the legal representatives of the Chief of Staff.
According to the letter, Adeyemi’s press conference, which was widely circulated across print, electronic and social media platforms, contained false, malicious and reckless allegations intended to portray Gbajabiamila as corrupt, dishonest, criminally culpable, morally bankrupt, administratively incompetent, a murderer and unfit for public office.
The legal team said Adeyemi falsely alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of the purported take-off grant for the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), received N400 million through proxies in connection with appointments to the council, abused his office to intimidate individuals and media organisations, manipulated government budget processes and sought to misuse security agencies.
The letter further stated that Adeyemi accused the Chief of Staff of acting under the influence of intoxicating substances while performing official duties, engaging in corruption and abuse of office, and participating in murder, assassination and an alleged criminal cover-up.
Describing the claims as entirely false and highly defamatory, the lawyers argued that the allegations were capable of lowering their client’s reputation in the eyes of right-thinking members of society by portraying him as corrupt, violent, dangerous and undeserving of public trust.
Gbajabiamila’s legal team demanded that Adeyemi, within 72 hours of receiving the letter, immediately stop making or publishing further defamatory statements, remove the disputed press conference and all related materials from every platform under his control, and issue a full, unconditional and unreserved retraction and apology.
The lawyers also insisted that the apology be published with the same prominence as the original allegations in at least five national newspapers, across all platforms where the publication appeared and on every social media account used to circulate it.
They further requested a written undertaking guaranteeing that no further defamatory statements would be made against their client.
According to the letter, failure to comply within the stipulated period would leave the legal team with no option but to commence both criminal and civil proceedings against Adeyemi.
The proposed legal action includes a criminal complaint for alleged criminal defamation under the laws of the Federal Capital Territory, as well as a civil suit seeking N10 billion in aggravated and exemplary damages, which the lawyers said would be donated to charities selected by Gbajabiamila.
In addition, the legal team said it would seek a perpetual injunction restraining any further defamatory publications and a mandatory court order compelling Adeyemi to publish a retraction and apology.
The legal threat followed a press conference held by Adeyemi on June 25, during which he accused Gbajabiamila of demanding a share of the alleged take-off funds of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, receiving money through intermediaries, abusing his office and participating in efforts to conceal alleged wrongdoing.
