MEAT SELLER ALLEGEDLY MACHETES 25-YEAR-OLD WIFE TO DEATH IN EKITI

A 25-year-old woman, Kehinde Onizeokaraga, has allegedly been macheted to death by her husband, Sodiq Ibrahim, during a marital disagreement in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday when the couple, who are both indigenes of Kogi State, met at the residence of a friend of Kehinde’s father in an attempt to resolve their marital differences.

Sources said the couple had been experiencing challenges in their marriage, leading Kehinde to leave her husband’s residence following what was described as irreconcilable differences.

It was gathered that efforts had recently been made to reconcile the couple, although Kehinde was reportedly uncomfortable with the development.

A source said the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Ibrahim allegedly attacked his wife repeatedly with a machete, inflicting severe injuries that eventually resulted in her death.

The deceased’s cousin, Yussuf Lawrence, who confirmed the incident, said Kehinde had been preparing to leave Ado Ekiti when she was invited to the residence of her father’s friend, who purportedly wanted to see her.

According to Lawrence, Kehinde went to the residence on Wednesday morning, unaware that her husband would also be present.

He said an attempt by some individuals to mediate in the couple’s marital dispute subsequently degenerated into the fatal attack.

Lawrence said Ibrahim fled the scene after the incident and remained at large as of Thursday.

He also alleged that some persons had been arrested and taken into police custody in connection with the incident.

According to him, Ibrahim allegedly fled with the deceased’s mobile phone, which the family believes may contain information capable of assisting the police in their investigation.

“We want Sadiq (Ibrahim) to be found and arrested. We want justice for Kehinde. Her parents are in pain and my family is in serious agony. She didn’t deserve this,” Lawrence said.

The body of the deceased was reportedly deposited at a mortuary.

Confirming the incident, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

Abutu added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the alleged perpetrator and bring him to justice.
