Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have rescued five travellers who were abducted by suspected bandits along the Anka–Bukkuyum Road during a swift security operation.
Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the victims were kidnapped on June 10 when armed men blocked the highway and intercepted passing commuters.
He explained that operatives of the Anti-Violent Crime Response Unit acted on a distress call and immediately launched a rescue operation, pursuing the attackers into nearby forest areas.
According to him, the officers engaged the fleeing bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the victims and escape with possible gunshot wounds.
Abubakar confirmed that all five victims were rescued unhurt, while two motorcycles suspected to have been used by the criminals were recovered at the scene.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling insecurity in the state and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
