Wizkid: My Name & Fela Cannot Be Mentioned In The Same Sentence
There’s no doubting the fact that Wizkid is a modern-day legend in his own right.
He’s been consistent since he burst onto the scene in 2010 with “Holla At Your Boy“, and since then his musical ability has grown to the point of international recognition.
Given his level of success, people constantly liken him to the late Nigerian afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, and although he kind of fuels this comparison sometimes — his Snapchat name is “Felaback” — he actually thinks it’s disrespectful to the icon.

Fela is a musical behemoth whose legacy has outlived the man himself. Not only was he a musical genius, he had a lot of political influence on the youth and people of the time, which made him a staple in Nigerian culture.
We love Wizkid, but he really can’t be compared to Fela in terms of impact and talent. Fela’s legacy might not mean as much to us millennials, as we weren’t born around that time, but it is undeniable.
We are living through Wizkid’s rise in the ranks and it’s possible that he means to us what Fela meant to the older generation, however, it doesn’t mean he’s the next Fela.
Jurgen Klopp: Mohamed Salah feels at home with Liverpool
In a recent interview with Hip TV, Wizkid made it clear that he also thinks the comparisons are unfounded, as he looks up to the legend and mirrors his career after him. He also talks about his relationship with Drake and his journey to success.
