Barely a month ago that Akin Alabi shared his experience about how a group of youths told him to “settle” them before providing an electric transformer from a needy community, an NGO has narrated a similar ordeal.

The Non-Governmental Organisation identified as Towards A Greater Nigeria, TAG-N under the initiative; “Stop complaining about the government & do your part” majorly established to renovate schools, provide chairs, & empower kids with stationeries, bags&uniforms, reportedly took their helping hands to “LUTHERIAN SCHOOL” Manta II AKS after a careful selection process.

The school is said to be in a very poor shape and lack basic equipments.

According to “Ray” a representative of the NGO who shared the story on Twitter, completed chairs were ready to be deployed to the school, also, a downpayment of 140,000 naira had been paid to our contractor to begin the repair of roofs, flooring, and ceiling.

However, Ray said, when bricklayers and carpenters got there on Tuesday October 1, 2019, the youths requested N10,000 before work could commence. ‘Our rep on ground was able to get them to collect N5000 so work could commence asap. We were able to complete one classroom’s roof’

He expalined, ‘the following day, they showed up again to demand for another N5000 for security which was given to them so our contractors do not get harmed cuz of their desperation. Sadly, when work was about to begin, the chiefs and the youth president, in the company of other miscreants showed up and ordered workers to vacate unless we were going to rebuild the whole school, paint walls, and submit to them all quotations among other unneccessary things and demands’.

‘We tried convincing them that we are an NGO and majority of our members are students in China who wanted to give back to Nigeria’.

‘They wouldn’t have it at all, and the workers on ground were beaten mercilessly, we spoke with our contact on ground who helped call a councilor in a nearby community. On his arrival, he too was stoned and his car was damaged’.

‘Hence, the chairs and tables, as well as construction materials have since been moved to another school in need of it (ANNANG PEOPLE’S SCHOOL)’.
