IKOSI-ISHERI KETU MAGODO CARNIVAL: LAGOS FIRST LADY COMMENDS MAYORESS SAMIAT BADA FOR OUTSTANDING ORGANISATION

The First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; has commended the Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Authority; Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada; for the wonderful way the 2nd Ikosi-Isheri Ketu-Magodo Cultural Carnival has been organised.

The First Lady stated this while declaring the two-day carnival open on Friday at the CMD Events Centre, Magodo.

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu also used the opportunity to urge Nigerians to vote justly without influence or religious bias as the next elections in year 2023 approaches.

In her remarks, the Mayoress explained that the carnival was organized to celebrate the diverse cultural identities of the country and to surpass religious bias accepting that we are all human.

“The theme of this year’s edition: OUR CULTURE, NOT OUR RELIGION, aims to articulate the distinction between culture and religion. As Nigerians and Africans, we have manifold cultures, some being intertwined with religion across the diverse tribes and ethnics in our country and continent. However, our religious differences shouldn’t debar us from celebrating our lofty culture and traditions.

“All over the world, cultures are being celebrated not only because it unites and educates us, but because it’s a better way of celebrating our differences, as well as our common interests. In Ikosi-isheri LCDA, we are proud to say that we are one Nigerians, living in peace and harmony; we are united in our diversities! ”

Princess Bada also added that the carnival is “in line with Governor Sanwo-olu’s THEMES developmental agenda for a greater Lagos in which Entertainment and Tourism took integral parts.”

“As a responsible and proactive government, our administration has decided to use this cultural carnival characterized with entertainment and tourism to enunciate the importance of our forgotten traditions, promote unity irrespective of our religious and ethnic differences, to encourage investors to come and establish in Ikosi-isheri LCDA (i will like to use this opportunity to tell investors that we have lands available), to promote cultures and colors of various ethnics and communities in Ikosi-isheri LCDA, Lagos State and Nigeria at large.”

She used the oppurtunity to highlight some of the developmental projects of her administration which includes roads and infrastructure, education and youth empowerment, social welfare and tourism, health and environment.

She enjoined all the people of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA to vote for candidates of the All Progressives Congress APC in the upcoming general elections.

Princess Samiat Bada, Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri who is the face of the carnival also added that the people of the local government council affirmed the achievements of her administration by organizing an elaborate entourage as a show of respect and love.

The carnival took off in full blare as the dignitaries arrived one after another to grace the occasion.

Alhaja Kafilat Ogbara, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kosofe Federal Constituency also graced the occasion and applauded the Mayoress for the carnival as it breeds social cohesion and integration.

Expectedly, the carnival was a show of colors and culture. Traditional dancers from different ethnic groups including but not limited to Hausa, Edo, Yoruba etc took the stage to showcase the richness of their various cultural ethnicities.

               

Several artistes and comedians such as Papa Ajasco, Abass Obesere and many others entertain the audience who were thrilled with the various performances.

 

The Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Mrs Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, also made a goodwill speech at the event.

Tinubu-Ojo commended the organisers of the event, saying such events brings together all the people in the society irrespective of their different cultural backgrounds and religious differences.

Different members of the audience who spoke with Hotjist.com expressed their happiness in the carnival.

The cultural carnival will continue on Saturday with several artistes billed to perform including Fuji maestro; King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, Rapstar; Naira Marley, Juju Music Legend; Sir Shina Peters and many others
