2023 GUBERNATORIAL POLL: KNOW YOUR CANDIDATES IN LAGOS

As the 2023 Gubernatorial Election is fast approaching, a list of the Governorship Candidates and their running mates has been compiled to enable the citizens know the candidates vying for the position of Governing a state.

This is a compilation of Governorship Candidates and their running mates in Lagos State representing eight Political Parties. These candidates will be contesting the Governorship race during the 2023 Gubernatorial polls.

Initially, there was about 17 political parties in the race of which nine of them stepped down leaving eight to continue in the race.

The 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Lagos State, concurrent with elections to the Lagos State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other State Houses of Assembly.

The Governor of Lagos State is elected using a modified two-round system. To be elected in the first round, a candidate must receive the plurality of the vote and over 25% of the vote in at least two-thirds of state local government areas. If no candidate passes this threshold, a second round will be held between the top candidate and the next candidate to have received a plurality of votes in the highest number of local government areas.

Governorship Candidate and Running Mate – Accord (A)

Hon. Hakeem Olaogun Dickson: is a seasoned administrator and politician with outstanding managerial skills.

He has contributed his quota at various times to the development of Lagos State. As the chairman of Surulere Local Government Area, he introduced a traffic control agency to regulate the chaotic traffic in Surulere, which later metamorphosed into the popular Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA).

He is happily married with amazing children.

Tope Abdulrazaq Balogun: is the former Secretary of the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) in Lagos State

Akeem Olayiwola Olaide: 43-year-old Akeem Olayiwola, is the Lagos State governorship candidate for AFRICAN ACTION CONGRESS (AAC.)

He holds a B.Sc. in Mass communication from Olabisi onabanjo University Ago Iwoye. Ogun state. He is also, a freight forwarding business mogul and married with kids.

Benneth Eze Segun: is the Deputy Governorship candidate of AAC

Governorship Candidate and Running Mate – African Democratic Congress (ADC)

Funsho Doherty: was born in Lagos on 16 June 1968. He is a chartered financial analyst and co-founding trustee of the CFA Society Nigeria.

He is married with three children.

Rosemary Giwa-Amu is the deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos

Governorship Candidate and Running Mate – All Progressive Congress (APC) 

Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu: is a Nigerian Politician and the current Governor of Lagos State. He was born on June 25th, 1965. Before he ventured into politics, he was the MD/CEO of Lagos State Property Development Corporation. He is married to Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-olu and blessed with four children.

Running Mate –

Obafemi Hamzat:  born 19 September 1964) is a Nigerian politician who has served as deputy governor of Lagos since 2019.

Governorship Candidate and Running Mate – Boot Party (BP)

Wasiu Olawale Oluwo: was born in July 1966 and started his educational career in 1972 at Okemeta Memorial Primary School, Somolu, Lagos where he passed out in 1977. He is currently running for governor in Lagos State and has the following Qualifications : Primary Leaving Certificate, WASC and Bsc in Economics. He is 56 years old.Mr. Oluwo Olawale Wasiu  He obtained his WASCE O Level in 1983 at the Lagos City College Yaba before proceeding to the Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo for his Higher School Certificate Advance Level which he got in 1985.

Running Mate –

Rotimi Balogun: A co-founder of Boston Advisory, Mr. Balogun has over twenty-three (23) years banking experience, spread across nine (9) banks, including UBA and Ecobank. He was a Relationship Director and Head of Corporate and Investment Bank (North) UBA in 2008 from where he joined Oceanic Bank as a Deputy General Manager in 2009 and Ecobank in April 2011.

Governorship Candidate and Running Mate – Labour Party (LP)

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour:  also known as GRV, (born 8 March 1983) is a Nigerian architect, activist and politician. He is the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for Lagos State in the upcoming 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election. He was the senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Lagos West senatorial district in the 2019 Nigerian Senate elections in Lagos State. He is married to Dr. Ify Rhodes-Vivour (née Aniebo), a molecular geneticist by profession.

Running Mate –

Abiodun Oyefusi: is a Nigerian Politician and candidate for the position of Deputy Governor of Lagos State under Labour Party (LP). She was formerly a senatorial  candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.

Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran: Popularly known as Jandor, is a Nigerian politician, journalist, entrepreneur, and technocrat. He is the chairman of Lagos4Lagos movement and the Lagos State Gubernatorial candidate under the People’s Democratic Party with his running mate, Funke Akindele.

Jandor was born into the family of Alhaji Adeniran and Late Mrs Ruth Oluwafunmilayo Adeniran on 25 November 1977 in Mushin Area of Lagos State
Running Mate –
Funke Akindele: is a Nigerian filmmaker, director, actress, politician and producer. Akindele was born on 24 August 1977, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.
