10TH SENATE: IT’S MY TURN TO BE SENATE PRESIDENT – ORJI KALU DECLARES

Read Time:1 Minute, 2 Second

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared his intention to contest for Senate presidency ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, saying it is his turn to be the number three citizen of the country.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, who represents Abia North in the Red Chamber, said this while speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the National Assembly.

Kalu urged his party to zone the Senate President position to him, being a ranking lawmaker and from the South East.

It’s my turn to lead the Senate, he declared. Team Nigeria will be my allegiance if I am elected Senate President. I intend to work everywhere in Nigeria.

“I’m hoping that Nigerians will pray for me to become Senate President because it’s my turn.”

Kalu is not the only lawmaker to have publicly declared interest in the position. Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Sani Musa (Niger), Barau Jibrin (Kano), and Dave Umahi (Ebonyi) are also reported to be interested in vying for the coveted position.

While the APC leadership claimed that the Senate presidency has not yet been zoned, it should be emphasized that zoning would play a significant role in selecting the final candidates for the position.
