UPDATE: ONE DEAD, SCORES INJURED AS SUSPECTED CULTISTS CLASH IN KWARA

A suspected cult group and another group engaged in combat that resulted in one death and multiple injuries. During the event in the Pakata region of Ilrin

West Local Government region, Kwara State, many vehicles were also destroyed.

When newsmen arrived on the scene on Monday, they discovered that Yusuf, a member of a competing gang, had been shot by a suspected cultist named Abiodun because of an argument that had happened over the weekend.

The deceased recently got married to his expectant spouse.

Following the event, the suspect, Abiodun, left the region and is currently at large. But things took a bad turn on Saturday when the suspect’s home, Gana Compound in Pakata, was besieged by the group the dead are alleged to be a part of, brandishing firearms, cutlasses, and other lethal weapons in an attempt to exact revenge.

More than six cars were destroyed in the retaliatory attack, and other individuals were reportedly hurt.

“When the gang came, they started shooting sporadically and people were running in opposite directions,” an eyewitness said.

“They later invaded the compound and attacked family members sighted with machetes, leaving many injured.”

The spokesperson of the Kwara Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident.

“Investigation is still ongoing,” she said.
