ALLEGED DEFAMATION: DELE FAROTIMI APPEARS AT ADO-EKITI MAGISTRATE COURT (VIDEO)
Along with representatives from correctional facilities, detained attorney and rights advocate Dele Farotimi appeared in a police security van just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
The plaintiff’s and defense attorneys were already in the courtroom, waiting for him.
After Babalola petitioned the police in Lagos, Farotimi was taken into custody on Tuesday. Last Wednesday, he appeared before an Ekiti State Magistrate Court to be charged on defamation charges. His bail hearing is scheduled for today, December 10, after Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered his remand in the penitentiary facility.
Farotimi was given N50 million in bail, along with an equal-valued surety who had to be a resident of Ekiti State and own real estate. He also needed to present the court with his travel passport.
Human rights advocate Omoyele Sowore, meanwhile, declared that a demonstration will take place on December 10, 2024, in King’s College, London, Ekiti, Lagos, and Abuja. But as of this morning, there were no signs that the protest will happen in Ado-Ekiti.
