TESLA STOCK DROPS 3% FOLLOWING MUSK’S DECLARATION OF POLITICAL AMBITION
By: Muftau Fatimo Musk's conflict with President Donald Trump has escalated further since his announcement. According to Reuters, Tesla's stock dropped more than 3% in Frankfurt, indicating that it will continue to drop once premarket trading resumes after the three-day Independence Day weekend. Wedbush veteran tech analyst Dan Ives told Reuters that Musk was Tesla's "greatest asset" and that the company's stock would probably suffer if he decided to get more involved in politics. Ives wrote in a letter on Sunday that Tesla needs Musk as its CEO and its greatest asset and that the company should avoid going down the political path once more while also alienating Trump. Given the political nature of this endeavor, we would not be surprised if the Tesla board became involved at some point, depending on how far Musk takes it.
TRUMP’S PROPOSED ADDITIONAL 10% TARIFF AGAINST THE BRICS PUT NIGERIA AT RISK.
By: Muftau Fatimo Following the 16th BRICS Summit in October 2024, Nigeria was officially accepted as the ninth BRICS partner nation in January 2025. Nigeria’s ‘struggling’ economy is set to face a further slump if the United States President, Donald Trump, follows through with his threat to levy an additional trade penalty on countries joining with BRICS. When the pioneering countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa united under an unofficial umbrella of emerging economies, the term "BRICS" was created. Additionally, it included six coalition members, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Indonesia, which joined in 2024. Trump attacked the 11 BRICS countries on Sunday, threatening to levy an additional 10% tariff on the alliance, which consists of China, India, Russia, and Brazil. "Any country that supports the BRICS' anti-American policy will be subject to an additional 10% tariff." This policy will not be exempted," Trump stated on his Truth Social platform on Sunday. One of the nations joining BRICS is Nigeria. Following the 16th BRICS Summit in October 2024, Nigeria was officially accepted as the ninth BRICS partner nation in January 2025. On Saturday, President Bola Tinubu landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 17th BRICS meeting. Nigeria's status as a "partner country," a membership category below full status, is the reason President Tinubu is attending the summit at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil. Nigeria can contribute to talks and formal documents at BRICS summits, meetings, and initiatives as a partner nation. Its prior guest status, which the nation had enjoyed for many years, has been upgraded to partner status.
