SENATE AWAITS CTC OF COURT JUDGMENT NULLIFYING NATASHA’S SUSPENSION

The Senate has acknowledged the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which nullified the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central, but says it is yet to be served with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling.
Justice Binta Nyako had on Friday, July 4, 2025, ruled that the suspension was excessive and ordered the Senate to reinstate the lawmaker. However, the Senate maintains that until it receives the formal enrolled order of the judgment, it cannot act on the court’s pronouncements.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, the upper legislative chamber confirmed that its legal representatives attended the court session but reported that the complete judgment was not read in open court.
“Since no party to the case has been officially served the enrolled order of the judgment, none can enforce any perceived order or relief,” Adaramodu said.
He explained that the Senate has already applied for the CTC in order to conduct a comprehensive legal review of the ruling and determine the appropriate course of action.
“Pending receipt and examination of the CTC, and acting on the advice of counsel, the Senate shall refrain from taking any steps that may prejudice its legal position,” the statement said.
Adaramodu reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to the rule of law and due process, noting that any further actions would be guided by the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and legal counsel.
“We urge the public to remain patient and assured of the Senate’s fidelity to due process,” he concluded.
