IGBOHO VOWS CONTINUED ONSLAUGHT AGAINST CRIMINALS IN SOUTH-WEST

Yoruba Nation activist and founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has vowed to sustain the fight against bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements across the South-West.
Igboho said the security operation would continue until the region’s forests, highways and communities were made safe for residents.
He made the declaration on Thursday during the launch of the Iru Ekun Security Network in Akure, Ondo State, according to a statement issued by his media office and made available to journalists in Ibadan.
The activist attributed the reported decline in kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes across parts of Yorubaland to the support received by the security network from the Police, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services and other security agencies.
Igboho described security as a collective responsibility that transcended political, ethnic and religious differences.
He said the objective of the initiative was to restore public confidence in the government’s ability to provide a peaceful and conducive environment for socio-economic development in the region.
According to him, the activities of rogue herders, bandits and kidnappers that previously disrupted peace in farming and other communities had reduced since the commencement of operations by Iru Ekun with the backing of security agencies.
“We are not backing down or relenting until we make the South-West forests, highways and agrarian communities safe for all. We cannot afford to create chances for hoodlums to turn our region into their safe haven,” he said.
Igboho also called for continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying effective security was essential to the development of the South-West and other parts of the country.
Addressing volunteers who joined the security network in Ondo State, he cautioned them against confronting suspected criminals without first informing the appropriate security agencies.
He urged volunteers who observed suspicious activities along highways linking Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states, or in their communities, to promptly alert the Police and other relevant agencies.
Igboho also advised members of the network to remain vigilant, recalling that one of its members was recently killed by armed bandits during a confrontation in Iwere-Ile.
He reaffirmed the group’s determination to continue supporting efforts to curb kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in the South-West.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and prominent traditional rulers in the state have expressed support for the Iru Ekun Security Network.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Adetoyinbo Aladelusi, and the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin, reportedly pledged their support for the initiative during Igboho’s visits to their palaces.
The traditional rulers also urged their subjects to cooperate with Iru Ekun and other security agencies to strengthen peace and security across their communities.
