BENUE: TROOPS KILL SUSPECTED BANDIT, RECOVER WEAPONS

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke, have neutralised a suspected bandit during a gun battle along the Gbise–Igyudu Road in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Acting Media Officer of JTF Operation Whirl Stroke, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.
Zubairu said troops of Sector 1 were conducting a routine fighting patrol along the route on Wednesday when they encountered two suspected bandits riding a motorcycle.
According to him, the troops engaged the suspects after positively identifying them, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
He said one of the suspects was killed during the encounter, while the second fled after being overpowered by the troops.
The troops subsequently conducted a search and clearance operation in the area to ensure that the fleeing suspect did not pose an immediate threat to nearby communities.
Zubairu said the operation led to the recovery of one pistol, a pistol magazine, an AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one 7.62mm NATO round, two 9mm rounds and one PKT round.
Other items recovered included a Tecno mobile phone and assorted charms.
The force urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information on the activities and movements of suspected criminals.
Zubairu stressed that such information was crucial to enabling security forces to respond swiftly to emerging threats.
He assured that Operation Whirl Stroke would sustain its patrols and intelligence-driven operations across its areas of responsibility to disrupt criminal networks and prevent them from threatening the peace and security of law-abiding residents.
