With just five days remaining until the Edo State Senatorial and House of Representatives by-elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate for the Edo Central Senatorial seat, Prince Joe Okojie, have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement agencies to conduct their operations with professionalism on the day of the election.

They made these calls during their campaigns around communities in the district.

Addressing reporters following a meeting with traditional leaders in Igueben yesterday, Okojie asserted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has an obligation to maintain professionalism, expressing his confidence in his electoral prospects.

He stated that his foremost objective would be to urge the federal government to repair the federal roads within the senatorial district, all of which are in poor condition.

Okojie remarked, “I am quite confident that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will triumph, and if I were not assured of our ability to outpace our opponents, I would not be participating in the race. I believe my prospects are very promising.

I intend to secure victories in all five local government areas comprising the constituency, and INEC has no option but to act appropriately. I am assured they will take the necessary actions.

“People often misinterpret the nature of legislative responsibilities; however, I believe that once you are in the Senate, you will have the opportunity to influence the budget, and there are several projects I have identified that require immediate focus. Upon reviewing our senatorial district, it becomes evident that all federal roads require urgent attention. As I campaign across Esan land, I have realized that it is virtually impossible to travel from point A to point B. Therefore, my initial task will be to advocate with the federal ministry of works to address these roads and explore measures to alleviate the hardships faced by my constituents.

“I am inclined to establish skills acquisition centers so individuals can acquire new skills. ”

In addition, the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon Tony Aziegbemi, stated that both INEC and security agencies fell short in their duties during the 2024 gubernatorial election in the state, but he anticipates a changed approach from them on Saturday.
