The Federal Government has announced the withdrawal of the criminal complaint against Ms. Comfort Emmanson and a pardon for Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), who will now serve as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), disclosed the decisions on Wednesday in a statement following consultations with key aviation stakeholders over recent high-profile incidents involving unruly behaviour at Nigerian airports.

In the case of Ms. Emmanson, arrested on August 10, 2025, aboard an Ibom Airline flight, Keyamo said the airline had agreed to withdraw its complaint after she expressed “great remorse” in a statement to police in the presence of her lawyer.

He confirmed that the Police would facilitate her release from Kirikiri Prisons this week and that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) had agreed to lift her lifetime flying ban.

For KWAM 1, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced his flight ban to one month, after which he will partner with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as a public awareness ambassador for airport conduct. The NCAA will also withdraw its criminal complaint against him.

Keyamo further announced that ValueJet pilots Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, who were also penalised in connection with KWAM 1’s case, will have their licences restored after a one-month ban and a mandatory professional reappraisal.

The minister revealed plans for a retreat next week to retrain aviation security personnel on handling disruptive passengers and de-escalating tense situations, alongside sessions for airlines to address staff attitudes toward travellers.

“These above decisions were taken… purely on compassionate grounds,” Keyamo stated, adding that the government “will never pander to base sentiments” but remains committed to ensuring safety and security in the aviation sector.
