She stated that the announcement of her death incited fury among residents who gathered at the home demanding clarification regarding the circumstances of her demise.
“She regularly attends vigil every Friday, and on that particular evening, she left her home around 9 PM, only for us to learn that she passed away after visiting Yinka, her boyfriend.
“It is true that people were outraged by the news and sought an explanation, but the intervention of law enforcement at the scene prevented further escalation of the matter, as her boyfriend was taken into custody,” she remarked.
In confirming the incident, Osun Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi stated that the boyfriend, Yinka, is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
He revealed that authorities were notified that the woman fell ill upon arriving at Yinka’s residence, with a foam-like substance emerging from her mouth before she was transported to a medical facility.
“Regrettably, the woman succumbed to her condition on the way to the hospital, which triggered an uproar in the community; however, without the prompt arrival of security personnel, the situation could have worsened significantly.
“The deceased body has been moved to hospital, and an autopsy is expected to be carried out to determine the cause of her death,” said Ojelabi.
He also assured the community that the police would ensure a thorough investigation with a view to allowing all parties to get justice.
