The Nigeria Customs Service has embarked on a new chapter in Kaduna as Comptroller Sa’ad Hassan assumes leadership of the Area Command, committing to maintain unprecedented revenue growth and escalate efforts against smuggling following the retirement of Assistant Comptroller-General Ahmed Tijjani Abe.

This development was communicated in a statement shared on the Service’s official X account on Tuesday, signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Ridwan Yusuf.

As stated, Assistant Comptroller-General Ahmed Tijjani Abe formally transferred leadership on Friday, September 12, 2025, following what has been described as a “successful tenure marked by significant revenue growth. ”

From January to August 2025, the Command generated ₦30,090,207,200.36 — a 61.89 percent increase compared to ₦18,586,458,498.36 collected during the same timeframe in 2024, reflecting an additional ₦11.5 billion.

“This achievement was realized through enhanced anti-smuggling operations, improved trade facilitation, stronger engagement with stakeholders, and greater collaboration with security agencies,” the Command stated.

Abe was also acknowledged for prioritizing personnel welfare and capacity development, with the announcement noting that he “ensured regular training to enhance officers’ effectiveness. ”

In his comments, Comptroller Hassan praised his predecessor’s accomplishments and committed to building on these successes.

“I will continue the revenue growth, increase efforts against smuggling, and enhance trade facilitation in accordance with the Service’s mandate and the federal government’s economic diversification initiatives,” he stated.

He further requested support from stakeholders: “I encourage importers, clearing agents, and all stakeholders to provide full cooperation to the Command so that together we can continue to make significant contributions to national development. ”

It is noteworthy that the media  reported on September 13 that the Nigeria Customs Service appointed Comptroller Adebola Salawu as the new head of its Lagos Industrial Area Command, succeeding Comptroller Sarah Wadinda, who retired after a distinguished career. The handover ceremony was held at the Command’s headquarters in Festac Town, where Wadinda was recognized for her leadership and initiatives, such as the Customs Cares project, which equipped Festac Senior Grammar School with a water treatment plant, an e-library, a photocopier, and refurbished restroom facilities.

In his remarks, Salawu commended his predecessor’s achievements and pledged to build upon them. He assured officers and stakeholders of his dedication to enhancing excise operations, called for collaboration in adopting the Unified Customs Management System (B’Odogwu), and emphasized the significance of training and engagement to improve excise performance and bolster contributions to national economic growth.

The simultaneous leadership transitions in Kaduna and Lagos underscore the Customs Service’s commitment to continuity and reform, with both new comptrollers vowing to consolidate previous achievements.
