FAKE MADMAN APPREHENDED FOR OPERATING CANNABIS FARM IN ANAMBRA

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 43-year-old individual, Patrick Ojele, for purportedly masquerading as a mentally unstable person while clandestinely managing a cannabis plantation in Awka, the state capital.
The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, announced in a press release on Thursday that officers from the operations department detained the suspect during a patrol along the Awka–Enugu Expressway, in proximity to Ngozika Estate, on Wednesday.
The statement partially conveyed, “The Anambra State Police Command has detained a 43-year-old individual, Patrick Ojele, who feigned mental instability while covertly tending to a marijuana farm in Awka, the state capital.

“The police personnel affiliated with the Operations Department in Awka apprehended the suspect on September 17, 2025, during a standard patrol along the Awka–Enugu Expressway close to Ngozika Estate.
“He subsequently guided the team to the concealed farm, where substantial quantities of foliage suspected to be cannabis sativa were confiscated.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, remarked that the arrest exemplifies the Command’s revitalized approach to disrupting criminal supplies by targeting drug traffickers who support cultists and violent offenders. ”

He further indicated that the CP has instructed that the suspect be transferred to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugwu-Ukwu for a thorough investigation to identify his purchasers and dismantle the broader distribution network.
The media has reported that the police command has taken into custody no fewer than 54 suspects, comprising 39 males and 15 females, for various offenses ranging from kidnapping, cultism, hard drugs, and prohibited substances.
Ikenga stated that these arrests were the result of coordinated operations conducted by police personnel in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, and Ifitedunu, Dunukofia LGA, during distinct raid operations.
According to him, the coordinated efforts align with renewed strategies aimed at reinstating order in the state and mitigating the escalating threat of crime among young individuals aged 18 to 26.
