POLICE NABS 13 SUSPECTS OVER AMBUSH ON OFFICERS IN ENUGU

The Enugu State Police Command has reported the apprehension of 13 male individuals related to an ambush assault on its personnel in the Akpakume community of Udi Local Government Area.
As per the statement from the command’s representative, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the event transpired on Monday when police officers proceeded to detain individuals associated with allegations of conspiracy, illegal firearm possession, and cult activities.
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, in the early hours of 3rd November 2025, arrested thirteen (13) male suspects and recovered one (1) locally made single-barrelled gun at Akpakume community, Udi Local Government Area,” said Ndukwe, in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
He clarified that the individuals accused and their associates, who had set a trap, discharged firearms at the law enforcement squad, wounding several officers and causing damage to their operational vehicle.
“The operatives, however, swiftly responded with superior firepower, forcing many of the criminal elements to flee with varying degrees of severe gunshot injuries. One locally made single-barrelled gun was recovered during the arrest,” Ndukwe said
The spokesperson for the command stated that the suspects’ gunfire also fractured the illumination of the police operational vehicle and harmed other vehicles in the vicinity.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, on Tuesday, led a team of senior officers to the Akpakume community for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the suspects.
During the visit, Ndukwe noted that the perpetrators had intentionally vandalized residences, stores, and other assets, including agricultural produce and livestock owned by community members.
“Initial inquiries have revealed that these unlawful actions are a continuation of an ongoing intra-communal conflict in the region. “
