As part of activities marking her second term’s 100 days in office, the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada (MNIM), on Thursday commissioned the phase 2 of the newly constructed Mile 12 International Market.

The event, held at the popular Mile 12 axis, drew traders, market leaders, government officials, and community stakeholders, who commended the council boss for her continued commitment to grassroots development and urban renewal.

The Mile 12 International Market, which has undergone extensive renovation and modernization under Bada’s administration, is one of several infrastructure projects being commissioned during the weeklong celebration of her 100 days in office.

Earlier in the week, the council chairman commissioned seven rehabilitated roads across Olowora and Bello Folawiyo Estate — including Adetuberu Street, Isaac Omole Street, Temitayo Obisanya Street, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada Street, Solomon Niran Aluko Street, Bello Folawiyo Street, and Yetunde Owoseni Close.

According to Princess Bada, the newly completed phase of the market is part of a three-phase redevelopment plan aimed at transforming Mile 12 into a modern commercial hub that meets global standards.

She explained that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus vision, which emphasize infrastructure renewal, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable urban development.

Before the reconstruction, the Mile 12 market was overcrowded, disorganized, and unsafe. The Phase II redevelopment introduced improved facilities, better access roads, enhanced security, and a more organized layout for traders and customers.

Princess Bada noted that the transformation has boosted business activity, improved traffic flow, and enhanced the general environment of the area.

Describing herself as “Omo Iya Olaja”, a proud daughter of the market leader, she said the project represents “an emotional victory for hardworking market men and women whose resilience sustains the local economy.”

She commended the cooperation of market leaders including the Iyaloja General of Mile 12, Alhaja Iyabo Ahmed; the Chairman of the Perishable Section, Alhaji Shehu Usman Samba; and the Chairman of the Yam Sellers Association, Alhaji Dandama Shukura, noting that their collaboration made the project’s completion peaceful and successful.

“Our administration remains committed to making Ikosi–Isheri LCDA a model of urban renewal and community-driven progress,” Princess Bada assured. “No community within the council area will be left behind.”

She also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu for their leadership and support, pledging that Ikosi–Isheri would continue to deliver visible results that reflect the Renewed Hope vision.

The Mayoress emphasized that within just 100 days of her current tenure, significant developmental strides have been achieved, promising that by the end of her administration, “Ikosi–Isheri would stand as a model community — a small London — in Lagos State.”

Also speaking at the commissioning, the Iyaloja of Ikosi–Isheri LCDA, Alhaja Iyabo Ahmed, described the transformation as “a remarkable turnaround” from the market’s previous state.

She recalled that before the reconstruction, “the market environment was often flooded and unhygienic, making it difficult for traders and customers to access without wearing rain boots.”

She added that “environmental authorities frequently sealed off the market due to poor conditions — a challenge that has now been permanently resolved through the council’s intervention.”

On his part, the Chairman of the Perishable Section, Alhaji Shehu Usman Samba, described the council boss as “a true grassroots politician who understands the needs of the people and responds to them without being told.”

He praised her for transforming the market into “a modern trading environment that supports the daily activities of thousands of traders.”

According to him, “the traders’ decision to re-elect her was based on their belief in her capacity to deliver more progress.”
He expressed optimism that the third phase of the market redevelopment, when completed, “would further enhance the market’s infrastructure and business potential.”

The 100 days in office celebration, which entered its fourth day today, is expected to culminate on Friday with an empowerment programme and distribution of “Renewed Hope” palliatives to residents.
