The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, has announced a two-week suspension of academic activities following the tragic death of a 200-level student who was run over by a yet-to-be-identified commercial driver along the Iseyin/Saki Road in Oyo State.

Findings revealed that the deceased was a student of the Department of Agricultural Economics before the fatal incident occurred on Friday morning.

Eyewitnesses said the incident sparked outrage among students, who set the commercial vehicle ablaze after the driver fled the scene.

Confirming the development on Saturday, the Registrar of the institution, Olayinka Balogun, said the university management deeply regretted the loss and approved the temporary suspension to allow students and staff to mourn.

“The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin,” Balogun stated.

“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

“In light of this grievous loss, and in recognition of the emotional toll it has taken on our students and staff, the university management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately.”

He further directed all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources to proceed on the break and return to campus on Monday, November 24, 2025, when academic activities will resume.

Balogun also urged students to remain calm, stay safe, and support one another while honouring the memory of their late colleague.
