VIDEO: 2FACE IDIBIA SAYS “AFRICAN QUEEN” BROUGHT HIM FAME — AND TROUBLE
Veteran Nigerian musician 2Face Idibia has revealed that his 2004 hit song, “African Queen,” brought him both immense fame and unexpected challenges.
Speaking on a recent entertainment show, 2Face reflected on how the track propelled him from local recognition to international stardom. “African Queen has been a huge blessing, but it also turned into a problem for me. Still, I’m thankful for everything,” he said.
Released from his debut solo album Face 2 Face, “African Queen” became a pan‑African smash hit, earning him multiple awards and helping to establish Afrobeats on the global stage. The song remains one of the most celebrated tracks in African music history.
However, the hit also brought complications. 2Face disclosed that disputes arose over the song’s authorship, particularly involving his former bandmate, Blackface, who has repeatedly claimed credit for writing the track. 2Face maintained that the song was a collaboration, but the matter has remained unresolved for years.
The musician’s revelation underscores the complex nature of artistic success — while a single song can open doors and create international recognition, it can also lead to scrutiny, disputes, and unforeseen pressures.
Even after nearly two decades, “African Queen” continues to dominate playlists and remain a defining moment in 2Face’s illustrious career, symbolizing both the rewards and challenges of musical stardom.
