A teenager identified as Chidera has been reportedly killed during a suspected robbery attack in the Mmiata Anam area of Anambra State.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, was disclosed by an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, in a post shared on Thursday.

According to the platform, the victim was allegedly accosted by a group of boys said to be from the Umuoba community, who reportedly demanded money from him and attempted to rob him.

Naija Confra stated that Chidera was killed in the course of the attack.

“Earlier today, Naija Confra reported an incident in Mmiata Anam, Anambra State, where a young boy named Chidera was killed. The incident occurred two nights ago when the victim was reportedly stopped by a group of boys from Umuoba, who demanded money and attempted to rob him. During the robbery, he was killed,” the platform said.

The group added that there were conflicting accounts from residents of the community regarding the nature of the incident.

While some residents reportedly described the killing as cult-related, others insisted it was a robbery attack, although some confirmed that the alleged robbers were cultists. The platform further claimed that the suspects involved had been arrested by local authorities in Mmiata.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Anambra State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, were not answered. A text message sent to him had also not been responded to as of the time of filing this report.

The incident comes amid growing concerns over violent crimes in parts of Anambra State. In December, four persons were reported killed in a separate violent attack near the Afor Market Junction in the Nawfia community of Njikoka Local Government Area.
