Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has returned to Britain following a fatal road accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.

According to report, the boxer arrived at London’s Stansted Airport aboard a private jet on Friday evening.

His departure from Nigeria came after law enforcement authorities charged the driver involved in the crash, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, with “dangerous driving causing death.” Kayode is scheduled to appear in court on January 20.

Kayode was behind the wheel of the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua alongside team members Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck on a major Lagos–Ibadan highway in southwest Nigeria on Monday.

Police and Ogun State officials confirmed that Ayodele and Ghami died instantly, while Joshua and Kayode sustained minor injuries. Joshua was subsequently taken to the hospital and discharged on Wednesday.

British media reports identified Ghami as Joshua’s long-serving strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was described as his personal trainer.

It was further reported that the 36-year-old boxer returned to Britain ahead of the funerals of both men. The 2012 Olympic champion, who has family ties to Nigeria, had been holidaying in the country after his victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19.
