Troops of Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), have successfully rescued six kidnapped victims in the Kajuru/Kujama area of Kaduna State.
Lieutenant-Colonel Shuaib Umar, Acting Deputy Director and Army Public Relations Officer of the 1st Division, Nigerian Army, confirmed the development on Tuesday in Kaduna.
He stated that the operation, carried out on Monday, was part of a broader, coordinated security effort spanning Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko Local Government Areas, including border communities around Kauru.
According to Lt.-Col. Umar, the operations were strategically aimed at restricting the movements of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area (JOA) and the wider Sector 1 OPFY jurisdiction.
“Following a distress alert regarding extremist activity around the Kasso adjoining hills, troops of Sub-Sector 5, already conducting clearance operations in the Kujeni area, rapidly mobilised to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the troops engaged the criminals with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forest. The troops then cleared the area, resulting in the successful rescue of six kidnapped victims,” he stated.
Umar added that the rescued individuals were safely handed over to representatives of Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for reunification with their families.
He noted that the General Officer Commanding/Commander of Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, commended the troops for their bravery and urged them to remain on maximum alert, maintaining aggressive operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the JOA.
