The Nigerian community in Canada and abroad has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of a six-year-old girl, Ayomide Bennett, who reportedly fell from a 28th-floor apartment in Toronto.

The incident, which occurred in North York, has left family, friends, and members of the Nigerian diaspora in deep grief.

According to a fundraising appeal created via GoFundMe by one Adebisi O, the child, described as autistic, was “deeply cherished for her innocence, spirit, and light.”

The statement on the fundraising page noted that the tragedy happened after the girl fell from a high-rise apartment located at 200 Chalkfarm Drive.

“Her life was tragically cut short following a devastating fall from a 28th-floor apartment,” the appeal read.

It added that the loss has been widely felt within the Nigerian community in Canada and beyond.

Funds are being raised to support funeral and memorial arrangements for the child, with donations expected to go toward burial costs and related expenses.

In a separate message, the Nigerian Canadian Association confirmed that its executives had visited the grieving family of Gift Anyanwu to offer condolences following the heartbreaking incident.

The association expressed sympathy with the family, describing the loss as devastating, while offering prayers and emotional support.

“Every contribution, prayer, and kind gesture will go a long way in helping the family during this painful season,” the association stated.

The Nigerian community in the Greater Toronto Area has continued to rally around the family, offering messages of support, prayers and solidarity during the period of mourning.
