The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 55-year-old Ademola Joshua in connection with an alleged case of incest and sexual abuse involving a minor.

Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh revealed on Monday that Joshua is accused of sexually abusing and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

According to Jimoh, the case was reported to the police on January 4 by a man named Adewale from Ilara-Mokin, who alleged that the suspect had been engaging in unlawful sexual activities with his sister’s daughter.

According to Jimoh, the alleged abuse was uncovered during investigations into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s pregnancy.

“After receiving this disturbing complaint, the case was immediately handed over to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit of the command for a discreet and thorough investigation,” he said.

He added that the suspect remains in police custody and will be arraigned in court once the investigations are completed.

The police spokesperson emphasized the command’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, stressing that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence would be prosecuted without compromise.

Jimoh further noted that the arrest aligns with the reform-driven policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which prioritizes gender-sensitive policing, accountability, and stronger responses to sexual and gender-based violence nationwide.

He assured residents that the Ondo State Police Command is dedicated to translating the IGP’s vision into concrete actions that foster public trust and enhance community safety.

Jimoh also praised members of the public for promptly reporting the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to law enforcement agencies.

“Through collective effort and timely reporting, we can build a safer society for our children and future generations,” he said.
