The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of more than 50 individuals in connection with last Saturday’s protest in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, the suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in looting and other violent acts during the protest.

Ikoedem said the arrests were carried out at various locations across Ekpoma after several shops were looted and the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma was vandalised during the unrest.

The suspects were reportedly transported in a police van to the Edo State High Court, where they are expected to be arraigned.

At the court premises, relatives of the suspects were seen waiting, while security operatives cordoned off the courtroom and restricted journalists from gaining access as of the time of filing this report.
