The Federal Ministry of Works has proposed allocating over N500 million in the 2026 budget for a range of programmes, including the training of hairdressers and make-up artists, distribution of grinding machines, motorcycles, and mini-vans, as well as anti-drug abuse awareness campaigns across select states.
The details are contained in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, recently published on the Budget Office’s website. Analysis of the document shows that these initiatives are spread across various geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
Under budget item code ERGP 12234747, the ministry plans to spend N35 million on providing grinding machines to women in Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency in the South-South region. Another N35 million is earmarked for training women in hairdressing, make-up, and soap production in Mikang/Shandam/Qua’an Pan Federal Constituency, Plateau State, in the North-Central zone.

In the North-East, N70 million is proposed for skill acquisition and provision of trade equipment to youths, women, and seven retirees in Inyamaltu/Deba, Gombe State. Similarly, N70 million is set aside for supplying mini pick-up vans, shuttle buses, and motorcycles to constituents in Abakaliki Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State, in the South-East.
The budget also includes programmes focused on youth empowerment, sensitisation, and advocacy against drug abuse in Zamfara State, part of the North-West, along with other constituency-level projects.
The inclusion of these initiatives in the Federal Ministry of Works’ 2026 budget has sparked public debate, raising questions about the relevance of such allocations to the ministry’s core mandate.
