Afrobeats superstar Davido reportedly lost a $50,000 bet following Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ defeat to Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semifinal on Wednesday.
The highly anticipated match ended 0-0 after regulation and extra time, with the Atlas Lions ultimately prevailing 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Hours before kickoff, Davido had shared his bet slip on social media, revealing he had wagered $50,000 on Nigeria to beat the host nation. The bet did not pay off as the Super Eagles were unable to score in open play and fell short during penalties.
Popular Nigerian TikToker Peller also lost out, revealing he had placed a $3,000 wager on Nigeria to win within 90 minutes.
“Thank you, Super Eagles, for playing very well,” Peller said sarcastically during a livestream. “I’ve lost my $3,000 bet. You were performing well in previous games before I decided to place my bet. Maybe if I stop watching your matches, you’ll start playing well again.”
