CROWDS THRONG ILORIN EMIR’S PALACE AS LATE CHIEF IMAM SOLIHU IS LAID TO REST

Massive crowds gathered at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin on Monday as the Ilorin Emirate bid farewell to its late Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Bashir Solihu, who passed away at the age of 75.

The Janazah prayer, held at the Emir’s palace, drew prominent Nigerians, religious leaders and residents from across the state. Among those in attendance were the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Sheikh Solihu, the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, served in the position for over four decades after his appointment in 1983. He was widely respected for his wisdom, scholarship and unwavering commitment to peace, interfaith harmony and religious tolerance within the Ilorin Emirate and beyond.

Speaking at the funeral, the Emir of Ilorin described the late cleric as a man of honour and deep piety, noting that his death was a monumental loss to the Ilorin Emirate, the Muslim Ummah and humanity at large.

Born in 1950, Sheikh Solihu began his Quranic education at the Magaji Baboko Quranic School before advancing his Islamic studies at the Shaykh Abubakar Sakama School. In recognition of his contributions to Islamic scholarship and community development, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Belaze University, United Kingdom, in 2013.

The passing of the revered cleric has continued to attract tributes from religious leaders, public officials and residents, who have praised his lifelong dedication to faith, peace and unity.
