FCT COURT SETS FEBRUARY 18 FOR VIRTUAL TESTIMONY IN VISA FRAUD CASE
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi has scheduled February 18, 2026, for the hearing of a motion seeking court approval for a UK-based Nigerian, Mr. Emmanuel Opeyemi, to testify virtually in a visa fraud case.
The motion was filed by the Inspector-General of Police in connection with the trial of Shitta Aderibigbe and Fanzine Educational Consult, arraigned on a two-count charge of allegedly providing false information to the British government. The defendants pleaded not guilty.
Justice Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo had earlier granted bail of ₦1 million to the defendants, with two sureties who must be civil servants of Grade Level 9 and above. The sureties were also required to submit their passport photographs to the court registry and be residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

The allegations, dated April 9, 2024, state that the defendants falsely informed the British Embassy that Emmanuel Opeyemi was married to Dolapo Yusuf, an act which allegedly threatened his deportation to Nigeria. The offence falls under Sections 97(1) and 140 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 98, Laws of Northern Nigeria.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel Vincent Imoedemhe informed the court of the motion for Mr. Opeyemi to testify virtually. Defence counsel, having just been served, indicated she would require time to respond and intended to oppose the application.
Justice Oyeyipo granted the adjournment to February 18, 2026, for the hearing of the motion.
The complainant, Emmanuel Opeyemi, is reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and is challenging his attempted deportation from the UK through an ongoing appeal and judicial review.
